A police pursuit involving a felony suspect came to an end in Ontario Monday night after the white vehicle was surrounded by California Highway Patrol units following an hour-long chase that began in the San Fernando Valley area.
Authorities say the pursuit was started by the LAPD officers before being taken over by CHP as the suspect entered the 60 Freeway heading east. During the chase, the driver was seen traveling the wrong way on the freeway, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic before turning around and continuing to flee.
Aerial footage from Sky5 captured the dramatic moments as the heavily damaged vehicle, believed to be running on two rims, continued eastbound with multiple CHP patrol cars close behind. Sparks could be seen flying from the vehicle’s undercarriage as it swerved between lanes.
The chase came to an end near Ontario after several CHP units successfully boxed in the suspect’s car, surrounding it at a freeway off-ramp. Officers quickly approached the vehicle with weapons drawn, ordering the driver out before taking the suspect into custody.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit or the arrest. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as officers cleared the scene and began processing evidence from the suspect’s vehicle.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver or the nature of the felony charges involved. CHP investigators are continuing to piece together the chain of events leading up to the pursuit, including where and how it first began under LAPD jurisdiction.
The investigation remains active.
