The Los Angeles Zoo is turning Halloween into a family affair this October with Boo at the L.A. Zoo, a two-weekend program that combines trick-or-treating with up-close looks at some of the zoo’s residents.
Set for Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26, the event will feature candy stations, story readings, science activities and themed photo opportunities.

Animal feedings and keeper chats will spotlight creatures that fit the spooky season, including Tasmanian devils, vultures, wombats and red river hogs. A Halloween twist on the zoo’s World of Birds show is scheduled each day at noon.
Children’s authors will also host storytelling sessions, and education stations will be scattered throughout the grounds with facts about animals that might surprise or unsettle young visitors.
Activities run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are included with general admission. Costumes are encouraged, but the zoo asks visitors to bring their own bags to cut down on waste, adding that candy supplies may run out.
Zoo members at the upper level will get early access on Oct. 18 from 8 to 10 a.m. with private keeper talks before the main crowd arrives.
Boo at the L.A. Zoo has become the zoo’s main seasonal event, meant to draw families into Griffith Park for Halloween while introducing them to wildlife conservation along the way.
Admission is $27 for adults and $22 for children ages 2 to 12. More information is available at lazoo.org.
