The Los Angeles Police Department has released video of a deadly hit-and-run collision in Canoga Park, showing the moments before a pedestrian was struck and killed by a speeding driver earlier this month.
The collision happened around 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 6 on De Soto Avenue, just north of Gresham Street, police said.
Video shared on the LAPD’s YouTube page Tuesday shows the man crossing the four-lane road outside of a crosswalk, pausing in the center turning lane before attempting to cross the final two lanes of traffic.
But as he nears the opposite curb, a speeding gray or silver vehicle strikes him, sending his body several feet through the air.

The driver fails to slow down or stop before disappearing from view; California law requires drivers to stop and render aid and remain on the scene in any vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Authorities have identified the victim only as a man in his early 40s and a resident of Canoga Park. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said.
Traffic detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating the fleeing driver, adding that there are likely many witnesses in the bustling area who could have witnessed the crash.
Anyone with information on this particular crash is asked to contact the LAPD at 1-877-527-3247. Anonymous tips can be provided to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at lacrimestoppers.org.
