A man was taken away with his head covered after attacking firefighters inside their engine in Buena Park Thursday night.

The incident occurred in the 5000 block of Knott Avenue when a man on a bicycle got in front of the engine as the crew was returning from an incident shortly before 7 p.m.

The unidentified man then “opened the door and started attacking some of our firefighters inside the engine,” Orange County Fire Authority Battalion Chief Chuck Fedak said.

Fedak said the engine was still moving when the man jumped inside, so the driver put the truck in park while the crew tried to get out and hold the man.

The attacker managed to get around the crew, jumped inside the truck and locked the doors, Fedak said.

Buena Park police and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department assisted in getting the man out of the truck.

The man could be heard yelling “Help! Somebody help me!” He was then taken to the ground and put in handcuffs before being taken to a nearby ambulance.

Three firefighters were injured in the attack. “Our members were treated and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” Fedak said.
