The Hard Summer music festival returns to Inglewood this weekend, though some changes to festival setup and operations are expected to prevent the hundreds of noise complaints sparked by last year’s event.
The two-day festival this Saturday and Sunday at Hollywood Park adjacent to SoFi Stadium features acts like Kaytranada, Dom Dolla, Busta Rhymes and Juvenile runs from 2 to 10 p.m. each day.
Last year, the concerts produced powerful bass notes that were felt for miles around the Los Angeles area, sparking hundreds of noise complaints.
After last year’s controversy, festival organizers and local officials said they figured out what caused that excessive noise and this year, it’s been remedied ahead of time.
“The speakers were pointed to the west and they were elevated even off the plaza, and what did that do? It allows the bass frequencies to escape into the atmosphere,” Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said.
By eliminating the problematic elevated stages and utilizing tools like acoustic shielding, the festival expects the loud music to remain inside the concert grounds.
“If they’ve made the changes, we shall see,” Inglewood resident Larry Williams told KTLA’s Omar Lewis. “We’ll be able to find out tomorrow.”
