A search continues for a missing emotional support dog named Brooklyn, who reportedly vanished from Los Angeles’ Pan Pacific Park earlier this week during a brief, distracted moment. The dog’s owner, Yulia Bayerman, believes Brooklyn was stolen and is now pleading with the public for help.

Brooklyn, a 10-year-old white Maltese and registered emotional support animal, went missing Monday, July 21, around 2:30 p.m. while Bayerman was at the park with her young daughter. According to a police report filed by Bayerman and information released by private investigator Moses Castillo, the dog was taken just minutes after she briefly turned her attention away to speak with a passerby.

“This is about family. Brooklyn is someone’s lifeline, and we need all hands on deck,” said Castillo, who is leading the search effort after Bayerman turned to private help when told police might take time to respond.

Bayerman told authorities she visits the park daily with her daughter and Brooklyn, who never strays from her side. She said Brooklyn is trained to bark if something is wrong and provides critical assistance for her seizure and anxiety disorders.

“He’s my son, he’s not a dog. He’s my son and then I had my daughter. They’re my two kids,” she said.

On the day of the incident, Brooklyn was not wearing a collar or ID tag and is not microchipped. He was wearing a small blue vest. Bayerman says she took a photo of Brooklyn and then a selfie with someone else just five minutes before she realized he was missing. She immediately searched the area, waited hours at the park, and believes someone took the dog directly to the adjacent parking lot. She says the park has surveillance cameras near the playground, but they can only be accessed by law enforcement. According to Castillo, some of those cameras are currently disconnected.

Since Brooklyn’s disappearance, Bayerman has posted flyers across Los Angeles County and appealed for help through social media and the Citizen app. “He’s my whole lifeline. He’s my daughter’s best friend. He sits with her on the stroller… I don’t even leave him at home,” she said.

Brooklyn the missing service dog
Brooklyn, described as a critical emotional support animal, was last seen in the vicinity of the Pan Pacific Park’s playground entrance.

Other dog owners in the community have expressed sympathy. “It’s a family member. It’s very emotional,” said Joan Stefan, a fellow pet owner at the park.

As of Friday, no leads have been reported, and the Bayerman family is offering a reward for Brooklyn’s return. Anyone with information is urged to contact:
