A South Pasadena woman whose body discovered by her grandchildren in June had been fatally stabbed while she was being burglarized by another of her grandkids, police said.

Susan Miller, 75, was stabbed to death on June 4 in the 800 block of Brent Avenue, and it was her adult grandchildren who found her while conducting a wellness check, authorities said.

On Wednesday, however, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced that Miller’s grandson, 28-year-old Bikramjot Singh Padda, is one of two men charged with first-degree murder and burglary in her death, the other being 44-year-old Josh Edward Atkins.

In a release announcing charges against the men, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Atkins faces an additional charge of personally using a knife in the commission of a crime.

“Our hearts are with Ms. Susan Miller’s loved ones as they continue to navigate this senseless violence and loss,” District Attorney George Gascón said in the release. “The loss is made even more painful by the fact that one of the defendants involved is the victim’s grandson. Prosecutors from our office’s Major Crimes Division are working diligently to ensure that both defendants are fully held accountable for their heinous actions in Ms. Miller’s death.”

Atkins is being held in lieu of $2.02 million bail, while Padda’s is set at $2.05 million. They’re scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 19.

If convicted, the men could be sentenced to life in state prison.
