The robotaxi company Waymo says they’ve found a way to placate neighbors in Santa Monica who complained of loud beeping at the company’s parking lots.

Government regulations require that the vehicles beep when reversing, something those who live near the vehicles say happens throughout the night.

Some neighbors had taken to blocking Waymo’s access to its lots and other forms of protest.

On Wednesday, however, Waymo confirmed to Los Angeles that “in consultation with federal regulators,” they’ve quieted the noise the vehicles produce while in reverse.

“We strive to be good neighbors in the cities that we operate,” the company said in a statement. “We are continuing to adjust our operations in response to neighbors’ feedback, including reducing congestion near the sites.”
