A Los Angeles man was taken into custody on allegations that he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman he met through mutual acquaintances, according to the Fullerton Police Department.

Arturo Urbina, 30, was arrested Monday evening by Southern California authorities after leading them on a high-speed pursuit.

Urbina became the subject of an investigation last week after a woman came forward to report she had been kidnapped and physically and sexually assaulted by him after meeting him a few days earlier. Those crimes, the victim said, happened at gunpoint.

Urbina was located Monday in the Los Angeles area by members of a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives regional task force. Those agents requested assistance from both the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and California Highway Patrol to bring him into custody.

Officials said Urbina was in a vehicle when he was located by authorities. He then led them on a pursuit in the Los Angeles area, which came to an end after he crashed into a pole in Torrance.

He tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended, authorities said. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of multiple firearms.

Urbina remains in custody as of Tuesday and the investigation is said to be ongoing.
