Manchester United are hunting back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since late October when they host Bournemouth on Monday night.
After a return to the patchy form that undermined their progress early in the campaign, United are desperate for some sustained success over the festive period. Their 4–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers was a step in the right direction, but Bournemouth will provide them with a tougher test.
The Cherries have won their last two trips to Old Trafford 3–0 and are unbeaten in four against the Red Devils. United will be desperate to end such an underwhelming run and take advantage of Bournemouth’s disappointing recent form.
Here is how Amorim could line his United side up for the upcoming clash.
Man Utd Predicted Lineup vs. Bournemouth (3-4-2-1)
GK: Senne Lammens—United will be relieved to now possess a goalkeeper who can be relied upon from week to week. Lammens continues to look an assured and confident presence in between the sticks.
CB: Noussair Mazraoui—The Moroccan’s involvement in this game is reportedly being kept a secret. Monday brings the deadline for clubs to release players for the Africa Cup of Nations and United have had to negotiate with international federations for a verdict which will only be known shortly before kick-off.
CB: Leny Yoro—Ayden Heaven has started the previous two matches, looking uncertain against West Ham United and Wolves. Yoro could return to the XI against Bournemouth as United seek a new leader at the back.
CB: Luke Shaw—Lisandro Martínez’s return could impact Shaw’s minutes moving forward, but Amorim has started the Englishman in all 15 of United’s Premier League matches this term. He’s clearly content with the 30-year-old.
RWB: Amad Diallo—United will miss Amad’s energy and attacking endeavour when he departs for AFCON, with the Ivorian always a major threat. He will be keen to keep the impressive Adrien Truffert on his toes at Old Trafford.
CM: Casemiro—United are still reliant on Casemiro’s bite in the centre of the park, although they’re currently looking for the Brazilian’s successor. His combative approach allows the magical Bruno Fernandes freedom to decide matches.
CM: Bruno Fernandes—Two goals and an assist at Molineux was a reminder of the Portugal international’s genius. As always seems to be the case, Fernandes will be crucial to United’s success on Monday.
LWB: Diogo Dalot—Dalot is by no means an attack-minded full back, but he has managed a goal and assist in his previous two matches. He’s likely to return to his preferred position on the right wing when Amad goes to AFCON.
RF: Bryan Mbeumo—Another star United will lose to AFCON, Mbeumo will be eager to bow out on a high. He scored against Wolves to end a three-game drought and he will want to replicate the two-goal showing he produced against Bournemouth’s fellow south coast side Brighton & Hove Albion back in October.
ST: Matheus Cunha—Grabbed an assist against his former club last time out for what was only his second goal contribution since joining United. His sole strike for the Red Devils came at Old Trafford in the aforementioned Brighton win.
LF: Mason Mount—Mount’s purple patch continued as he swept home a second Premier League goal in three games against Wolves. The Englishman is enjoying a rare injury-free run in the team.
